Camera Restricta is a camera that will search a database of geotagged photos to see how many have been taken nearby. If it detects that too many pictures have been taken there, it will retract the shutter and block the viewfinder to prevent you from taking one at all. This camera obviously wasn’t created to be the next big hit in the photography world, but more to make a statement about the redundancy in photos taken that has come about thanks to the proliferation of mobile and other low-cost photography.
But it’s about a lot more than just preventing unoriginal tourists from holding up the leaning tower of pisa during a trip to Italy. The creator of the project imagines that the camera could be used to help photographers find truly originals sights to photograph during their travels, which is definitely an interesting idea.
