In IJburg, an Amsterdam residential area raised from the sea, you will find a building overflowing with music. The student residence called 'Home' houses sixty-nine international students of the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Surrounded by young families and urban professionals, these musical talents are somewhat of a dissonance in this neighbourhood. The project 'Home Recording' enables them to virtually break down the walls of their building and share their melodies with neighbours, relatives at home and everyone else. The core of the project is the Home Recording studio, a fully equipped but low-tech recording booth, streaming directly to this website.
Home Recording is an art project connecting temporary inhabitants of IJburg with their neighbourhood and the rest of the world. Inspired by the iconic 'on air' studio light, a huge red light at the facade of the building indicates when an occupant is transmitting live on this website. If you are not living next door, you can follow the project via Facebook and Twitter. This way you will be notified with status updates and tweets about all the recordings. And to make sure that not a single note will be lost, all home recordings are safely stored in the online archive on the website.
