It might be easy to forget now that it's firmly entrenched as one of the unquestioned best guy movies of all-time, but Pulp Fiction was a genuine pop culture phenomenon back when it debuted in 1994. And while the Oscars got it wrong that year, Cannes didn't, awarding Quentin Tarantino with the prestigious Best Picture award. Following his promising debut with Reservoir Dogs, the added attention helped put Tarantino on the map both internationally and back at home. For all its self-aware pop culture references, Pulp Fiction has since become a classic in its own right, thanks to Tarantino's now-signature mix of inspired casting, irreverent dialogue, and ironic violence, all set to an eclectic, '70s-inspired soundtrack.
