So much for the theory that men won't watch movies with subtitles. While Blue Is the Warmest Color probably would've gotten attention no matter what thanks to its subject matter, we're guessing all the reports and controversy out of Cannes about those extended sapphic sex scenes didn't hurt either. Fearless, raw and emotional, this coming-of-age love story between two young French women was a unanimous pick for the Palme d'Or in 2013, and fittingly became the first awarded to both a director and his two stars. But while the most talked-about sex scene in recent memory may have been what initially captured guys' interest, it's the rest of the movie and its poignant, honest portrayal of young love that kept us watching.
