This week on Microsoft Unboxed, we’re taking a trip into Microsoft’s past and exploring the Microsoft archives. Microsoft was founded in 1975, and the Microsoft archives hold the pieces of technology made over the past 44 years.

As Colleen chats with Amy Stevenson, she explains what she does as an archivist at Microsoft and how she started as a librarian for Microsoft. She explains how many big companies have archivists and what goes on at corporate archivist conferences. One of her favorite things in the archive is a carpet order from 1975 for one of the first offices in Albequerque, where the check was made out to “Mike Rosoft.” She explains why archiving is important to her and for corporations, as she says businesses run an “economy of culture.”

►Microsoft Unboxed is a weekly YouTube series from Microsoft, hosted by Sonia Dara and Colleen O’Brien. We’ll look at Microsoft’s latest technology, and the people and stories behind the tech. Tune in every Thursday at 9AM PT for new episodes.
