Listen up! This week on Microsoft Unboxed, it’s all about sound – and both the absence and creation of it at Microsoft. To kick things off, Sonia shares about the quietest place on earth, an anechoic chamber that sits in Microsoft’s Building 87.

While the space is used to test the sounds of new products, two Microsoft engineers also wanted to see if they could achieve the Guinness World Record for the quietest room, which (spoiler alert) they did.

Then, Colleen shares the process of designing the Windows 10 calendar notification, which took sound designer Matthew Bennett 400 tries to get just right. Sonia shares the importance of sound for user experience and the responsibilities sound designers have to customers.

Microsoft Unboxed is a weekly YouTube series from Microsoft, hosted by Sonia Dara and Colleen O’Brien. We’ll look at Microsoft’s latest technology, and the people and stories behind the tech. Tune in every Thursday at 9AM PT for new episodes.
