Ewan McGregor is back in his best robes for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+, as the six-episode miniseries fills in the gaps between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. And while the long-awaited Obi-Wan series fleshes out the famed Jedi's backstory by revealing that he didn't spend all of his exile trapped on Tatooine, Episode 3 also dropped a surprising and emotional throwback to his mysterious younger years. Don't read any further if you don't want to see Obi-Wan spoilers!
That's right: Obi-Wan had a brother. But this bit of info is actually rooted in Star Wars lore. So let's explore the history of the other Kenobi - who sometimes is known as Owen...
Chronologically, we first met Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace where he was a 25-year-old Padawan apprentice to Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn. There's no Karate Kid-inspired training montage, so we're left imagining his younger years under the tutelage of Qui-Gon. What's clear, however, is that Obi-Wan thinks of his master as something of a father figure.
In Obi-Wan's third episode, the Jedi directly addresses the question of his family, however. And the question of does Obi-Wan have a brother is finally answered. Watch the full video for all the details on this development, plus how it's rooted in the history of Star Wars going back as far as Return of the Jedi.
