Hey guys! I’m Chris Winter, and in this video, I’m going to provide you with 20 money-saving hacks to help you get through the upcoming recession.

The cost of living is only increasing and the hacks in this video will help you prepare and manage your lifestyle and expenses! Better living people.

So let’s get to it, starting with creating a financial plan

Creating a financial plan will help you feel more in control of your daily spending habits. Start out by listing your financial goals, alongside your daily and monthly spending. Note down what is essential spending, like rent or mortgage payments, food costs and power bills. Then think about other spending habits you’ve picked up. Ask yourself what you can cut down on and think about how much you want to try and save.

Once you’ve got that down, you can figure out a weekly or monthly budget. Then, be ruthless sticking to it.

A super simple money-saving hack is to cancel Netflix and read a book instead!

Your monthly online movie and TV show subscriptions all add up! Do you really need all of them? Maybe pick just one, or if you want to save even more money, download free books online, or head to your local library and check out some books instead.

It’s a small pleasure of life - flicking through the pages of a book!


Next, get creative with your dining-out habits!

If you love to dine out with your friends, family or partner, it’s likely to be costing you quite a lot each week. You don’t have to give up fun to save money, instead, you just have to get creative! Visit your nearest supermarket, grab some ingredients and whip up a picnic. This is especially great during summer as the long warm evenings mean you can relax somewhere with a great view, like a local park or by the seaside.

Another simple hack to saving money is making your own cleaning products! With just four cheap ingredients - vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and essential oils - you have a simple cleaning product that works. It’s also non-toxic, natural, organic and environmentally friendly.

Even better, you can re-use bottles. Save the world AND save money.

This next hack helps you to both save money and become a minimalist. Only buy one of each product you own! And buy the next thing only when your current item has run out.

And on that note of buying things…Always ask yourself if you really need it?

This is your money-saving hack number six! Whenever you’re about to buy something new, think about it first…I’d even recommend leaving it a week and then asking yourself again if it’s something you actually need! Stop those spontaneous, “treat yourself purchases” and you’ll save so much money!


Number seven is about saving money when it comes to your clothes! If you do want to update your wardrobe, there are so many ways to go about it without spending an arm and a leg. Go out opshopping, hold clothes swaps with your friends and sell your old clothes to even make money. These ideas are all much better for the environment too as they help to slow down the fast fashion world we live in by making your clothes have a longer life span before they’re thrown out!

Another money-saving hack is to pay off your credit card debt. It’s known that interest rates can increase rapidly during recessions so make paying off debt a priority so you don’t end up losing money.

When you have disposable income, put away what you can, saving as much as possible to create a nest egg or an emergency fund for when the times get tough.
