Hyundai unveiled the 2020 Hyundai Sonata at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, and Edmunds special correspondent Elana Scherr was on hand to get a first look during the debut. Watch the video for specs and first impressions of Hyundai's redesigned sporty four-door.

The 2020 Sonata aims for a sportier, coupe-like character — but the big news is its hidden daytime running lights, which trace the underside of the front headlights and then stretch up over the hood. Inside, it features an interior with a clean and modern look and lots of tech. The Sonata will offer two four-cylinder engines: a 2.5-liter rated at 191 horsepower and 33 mpg combined and a turbocharged 1.6-liter rated at 180 hp and 31 mpg combined. The latter, with its 195 pound-feet of low-end torque, is likely to be the driving enthusiast's choice.

2020 Hyundai Sonata Price & Release Date

The 2020 Sonata goes on sale in October, but pricing hasn't been announced yet. We'd expect a slight increase over the current Sonata's starting price of $23,420.
