How to Invest in ETFs in 2023 | Ultimate Guide
Hi, I’m Chris Winter and in this video, I’ll be giving you a rundown on how to invest in ETFs in 2023!
ETFs are a great investment that’s widely used by beginners and expert investors.
Even the great Oracle of Omaha himself, Warren Buffet even suggests that most people who don't have time to research individual stocks should invest in these types of investments.
Let’s jump straight into your guide on how to invest in ETFs in 2023!
What is an ETF? How Does it Work?
First and foremost, you need to know what an ETF is and how it works.
In simple terms, Exchange traded funds or ETFs are like a basket of little stocks and securities.
Rather than just investing in a single stock or security, you’re diversifying your investments because it contains hundreds, if not thousands of different things like stocks and bonds.
ETFs track a particular index, sector, commodity, or other asset and can be purchased or sold on a stock exchange the same way that a regular stock can.
For example, if you want to invest in the electric vehicle sector because you think it’ll be highly valuable for years to come, then just invest in multiple securities in that sector rather than gambling in 1 stock.
No one really knows who makes it on top in the end.
Just ask our friends Google, Yahoo, or AOL.
Which one of these 90s internet stocks did the best?
If you don’t know then you should probably google that…
Anyways, ETFs are not the sexiest and mostly are overlooked, but if you want to diversify your portfolio, then they’re the smart way to go.
Why is an ETF Better than Stocks?
Let me start by saying I am not an expert or professional so you should still do your own research, but I have been trading for a very long time and I can say that an ETF is a safer route than investing in a single stock.
There’s a ton of advantages to choosing ETFs over stocks but I think the biggest advantage of ETFs is safety.
When I mean safety, I mean there’s less risk of losing money in an ETF over stocks.
Think of it like throwing darts.
One dart represents one stock.
If you throw a dart and you miss your target, well tough luck because you’d lose your investment.
But if you have a basket of different types of darts, like sticky ones or sharp ones or ones with a magnet, then you’ll more likely hit bullseye and make a killing in the market!
Since ETFs are a collection of multiple assets, you’re not simply hedging all of your investment towards one company.
ETFs are also better long-term investments especially for low-cost passively managed ETFs that track an index such as the S&P 500.
Let’s take a look at the 3 best ETFs out there right now.
Top 3 ETFs (SPY, VOO, QQQ)
If you’re looking for the best ETFs, then I recommend the top three best-performing ETFs: SPY, VOO, and QQQ.
SPY is the largest, most traded fund in the market so you can’t go wrong with this choice.
It tracks the famous S&P 500 Index, or the top 500 largest companies in the US.
