He has to know the ins and outs of what he’s investing in.

In his own words, Buffett once said, “Never invest in a business you cannot understand.”

“You have to learn how to value businesses and know the ones that are within your circle of competence and the ones that are outside.”

When you prioritize investing in a company that you are familiar with and how they make money, you can more easily predict value increases and decreases depending on the company’s activities.

This is infinitely better than just investing in a stock that seems to be doing well at the moment, but you have no clue how they work.

Investing in something you don’t know basically means you’re investing blindly.

Value investing is when you prioritize paying low prices for investments relative to their intrinsic value.

Warren Buffett is easily the world’s best value investor, so don’t take it lightly when he encourages people to learn the basics of value investing.

Learning about value investing involves researching about companies and having a keen eye on which companies you think will do well.

Always buy low and sell high.

His first rule of investing is never lose money.

His second rule of investing is never forget his first rule, which is never to lose money.

That means regardless of the current price, if you have a great company at a low price, hold for the long term and never sell for a loss.

If you end up value investing, the return you make can be life changing.

Warren Buffett Investing Tip For 2023: 3. Look for a Margin of Safety

Let’s be real: there’s no investment that’s 100% safe.

Even the brightest idea can go south if things go unexpectedly.

To economic conditions like recessions, depressions, government regulations, wars, and the list goes on and on, no stock is truly ever safe from a downturn.

However, some stocks are able to weather a storm more than others, that’s why Warren prefers stocks that are cash flow positive over stocks that are high growth and are in debt.

Warren chose to look for a margin of safety when investing.
