United States District Judge Judith E. Levy. Judge Levy has been a long-time resident and civil rights activist from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was appointed to serve on the federal bench by President Obama in 2014, and became Michigan’s first openly LGBT federal judge. She is well known for organizing some of the early gay pride rallies in Ann Arbor, and for her career as an Assistant United States Attorney in Detroit, Michigan, where she enforced federal civil rights laws in some very controversial cases. Judge Levy also teaches seminars at the University of Michigan Law School where she is fond of telling her students that she has "never worked a day in her life." In this talk, Judge Judy discusses coming out in the 1970s, her early experiences as an activist and her transition to the federal bench where she handles federal criminal and civil cases of all stripes and sizes.
