Canon SL2 - Don't Buy The Canon SL2 Before You Watch This
Hey there, my names Chris Winter and if you're watching this video, there's a good chance you're thinking about buying a Canon SL2 or 200D, so I wanted to give you 5 reasons why I think the Canon 200D would be good for you.
But anyway let's take a look at some of the reasons why you should take a look at this budget camera from Canon.
—————————————————————
Dual Pixel Autofocus:
To me, the biggest new feature in the brand new Canon SL2 is it's inclusion of the Dual Pixel Autofocus system.
Now if you haven't heard of this before, Dual Pixel autofocus was first introduced in the Canon 70D a few years ago. Before that, autofocus in DSLR was honestly pretty terrible.
It was stuttery, slow and used to constantly hunt. But that all changed with the 70D and has now since been included in the 80D, 5D and a few other cameras.
Essentially though with Dual Pixel autofocus you can put your Canon 200D pretty much where ever you want and it will smoothly and cinematically come into focus.
You can also use the touch screen on the back of the screen to pull focus, so wherever your finger touches will come into focus. I
Not only that the SL2 also has face tracking mode which works really well too. I normally film by myself and in fact I'm actually using it now and you can see that even if I move in or out my face stays in focus.
Now sure you can still pull focus mainually, which is totally fine, but for a lot of people, having that great autofocus feature will be a life saver.

Frames Per Second:
Another upgrade to the 200D was it's bump up to 5 frames per second. Just for examples sake this is what is sounds like.
Now if you've used a camera like the Canon 7D mark ii, you might think that's nothing special, but for an entry level camera, that's very impressive.
This now puts it in line with Nikon's DSLR's like the D3400, which often had the edge over Canon.
Now this isn't going to be the camera to use to shoot at the Olympics, but 5 frames per second should be fast enough for most day to day shooting.
—————————————————————
Frames Per Second:
Another useful feature in the 200D is it's built in Wifi & NFC.
I've used this in a number of Canon and Nikon DSLR's lately and it's been a feature I've found myself using more and more.
Essentially this allows you to quickly view and download your photos to your smartphone, rather than having to connect your camera to your computer.
This is a great feature especially for beginners who might be more used to shooting with their iPhones as it means you can quickly take good photos with your DSLR, and then upload them to places like Instagram and Facebook for everyone to see.
—————————————————————
Mic Jack:
One of the smallest but most important parts on the Canon SL2 is on the side here and that's it's microphone jack.
Now the Canon SL2 does have a built in mic but to be totally honest it's not the best, it's a bit tinny.
So having this 3.5mm jack is great because it means you can add a microphone like this one here and record some much better audio.
Some other budget cameras such as the Canon T6 are missing this mic jack and it kind of held them back, so having this included is awesome for up and coming filmmakers.
—————————————————————
Articulating Screen:
Let's move to the back of the Canon 200D now and another sweet feature is this new articulating screen.
This really works great especially in video because it means you can see what you're shooting in live view from pretty much any angle.
If you want to get a shot from up high or down low it's no problem.
But the biggest feature for me at least is that you can flip it around.
If you're a vlogger or youtuber this is key as it means you can frame yourself up perfectly when youre filming your self.
And if you pair that up, with the awesome dual pixel Autofocus, you've got a great setup.
I think this is the perfect budget camera for youtubers and filmmakers.

Should you buy it?
Now the Canon SL2 currently comes in at around $550 on Amazon which to me is an incredibly good price. You're getting a lot of the best features from cameras like the Canon 0D and 77D for a much cheaper price.
I'd used that extra money you saved to buy a nice extra lens like the Canon 50mm STM which also has great autofocus.
So should you buy the Canon SL2? Well if you're looking for a great beginner to intermediate DSLR at a brilliant price, I'd highly recommend it. You won't find a better camera for under $600.
I hope you all have a fantastic day and I’ll see you next time.
