Canon 800D For Professional Video Production - Best Settings
Hey whats up everyone, my names Chris Winter and In this video, I’m going to give you some tips so you can get begin to take some great video with you Canon T7i.
So one of the most important parts of creating great video is stabilizing your footage.
There’s nothign worse than having a shaky shot and it really doesn’t look very professional. There are a couple of easy ways though to improve this.
And the main way is to use a good quality solid tripod.
Any tripod is absolutely better than no tripod, but if you can, try and a spend a little bit more and get a tripod that’s relatively sturdy.
This one here is from Dolica and it’s a fantastic tripod. Not only is it sturdy, but its actually pretty ligth weight as well which means its easy to travel around with.
It’s also got these quick release locks which are easy to get the tripod up and down.
Even more importantly though is what’s on top of tripod legs and that’s the head up here.
This is called a fluid video head, which means that when you do you pans and tilts, you can get nice and smooth shots.
This is really important to have because if you use a tripod that doesn’t have a fluid head like a general photography head, you’ll jerky shots which don’t you great.

Now there might be times when you do want to go handheld while shooting video for creative effect and that’s where using a lens with inbuilt stabiliaziotn will come in handy.
These are great because even if you have a relatively shakyk hand, the lens will counteract that and help produce a smoother image.
At wide angles, it’s not going to be as much of a difference, but it really doesnt help when youre shooting at the longer end of your lens.

One thing you’ll hear a lot when you begin to learn filmmaking is that good quality audio is 50% of the shot and to me it’s even more important.
Most people will accept a poor image but nearly everyone will turn off a video that has bad audio qualtiy.
Now the inbuilt mic on your canon t7i is ok, but it’s not great. It can sound a little bit tinny.
That’s why it’s a good idea to get one of these, a shotgun mic.
This one here is a really budget one from Takstar and it’s not bad if you’re just beginning. It only costs about $30 so it’s pretty cheap.
I’d recommedn getting a Rode Videomic pro though if you really want to get a great mic. I’ve used it a lot and it’s brilliant.
You could also use a wireless lavalier mic like im using right now. This one here is from sennheiser and it allows to me to move freely about but still get great audio all the time.
The key though is really getting your microphone as close to the audio source as possible.

Now what lenses you use will play a big part of how your shot will look.
My favorite lens for shooting these days is the one that im shooting on right now actually, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8.
it’s got a very wide aperture of f1.8 which means i can get a very shallow depth of field.
it also works well in low light.
But if you want a cheaper option, you could look at this lens right here, the 50mm 1.8 from yongnuo. It’s only $50 and also has that wide aperture of 1.8.

One of the new features in the Canon T7i is it’s ability to shoot in slow motion.
The T7i can shoot in 60 frames per second which means when you bring that footage back into post, all you need to do is slow it down and you’ll get some smooth slow motion.
This can be great for getting some cool looking footage.

And another of the new great features in the T7i is it’s dual pixel autofocus. It’s great.
You can use the face tracking autofocus to easily track your subjects face like i’m doing right now.
This is great if you dont want to have to manually focus all of the time.
Another option is using hte single point autofocus. With this you can do cinematic focus pulls by selecting what you want to focus on and it’s as simple as that.
