Science writer Sam Kean visited Google's Cambridge, MA office to discuss his book, "The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons: The History of the Human Brain as Revealed by True Stories of Trauma, Madness, and Recovery".
In this book, he shows how neuroscience developed over the centuries: wait for misfortune to strike -- strokes, seizures, infectious diseases, horrendous accidents -- and see how victims coped.
(Special bonus! If you're a descendant of the French House of Valois, the book’s title refers to what happened after king Henri II, was lanced through the skull during a joust in 1559.)
Sam has written two previous books, "The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements" and "The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War, and Genius, as Written by Our Genetic Code".
